The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has issued a final warning to mechanics operating at Dadeban Loop in the North Industrial Area to vacate the area by November 2, 2026. This is to pave the way for the commencement of road construction works. The directive was given on October 26, 2026, during a working visit to the area. The Mayor engaged with six leaders of the mechanic workshop over the continued occupation of portions of the road earmarked for construction.
The planned road construction is part of the Reset Ghana Agenda being pursued by President John Dramani Mahama to improve road infrastructure, enhance accessibility, and facilitate economic activities across the country. The Mayor emphasized that the continued presence of vehicles along the affected stretch could obstruct construction activities and delay the implementation of the project. He stressed that it was necessary for the workshop operators to clear the road before contractors commenced work.
The affected operators had been engaged and given financial assistance to facilitate the relocation of their vehicles. The Mayor indicated that the support was intended to ensure that the exercise was carried out with minimal disruption to their businesses. He cautioned the operators against further delays and directed them to remove all vehicles from the affected stretch by the stipulated deadline.
Mayor Allotey also warned mechanics operating along First Close and Ninth Street, near Eden Garden Hotel, to vacate the streets. He cautioned that any operator who failed to comply with the directive would have their vehicles towed away by the Assembly. The Mayor stressed the importance of cooperation between the Assembly and business operators in the implementation of development projects.
The Mayor noted that improvements in road infrastructure would ultimately benefit businesses, motorists, pedestrians, and residents within the industrial enclave. He maintained that while the Assembly recognised the economic contributions of mechanics and other artisans operating in the area, their activities should not obstruct public roads or undermine efforts to improve infrastructure and ensure the free movement of vehicles.
During the engagement, the workshop operators acknowledged receiving financial support to facilitate the removal of their vehicles from the affected road. They confirmed that arrangements had been made to enable them to vacate the area ahead of the planned construction works. The planned construction of the Dadeban Loop road is expected to improve vehicular movement and enhance accessibility to businesses and industrial facilities.
The construction project aims to address road infrastructure challenges within the North Industrial Area. The Mayor's directive is part of efforts to ensure that development projects are implemented without obstruction. The Assembly's efforts to improve road infrastructure are expected to have a positive impact on the area's economic activities and overall development.
