The final competition between Algeria's top high schools took place at the Mouloud Mammeri Cultural Center in Tizi-Ouzou, drawing a large audience of students, parents, teachers, and education officials. The event featured students from Slimani Mohamed High School in Fréha and Fadhma N'Soumeur High School in Tizi-Ouzou. The competition consisted of an eight-subject test, with students evaluated on their knowledge of history, mathematics, physics, natural sciences, Amazigh language, Arabic language, French language, and English language.
In addition to the academic competition, the event included various cultural performances, such as presentations by the CEM Mouloud Feraoun choir, folk dances by Fathma N'Soumeur High School students, and a musical comedy by Boudjima High School. Other performances included songs by Makouda girls, a monologue by a Maâtkas High School student, and a theater piece by Fréha High School students, titled "La vengeance," inspired by the song of rebel Matoub Lounès.
The competition saw 17 high schools initially participate, with four schools advancing to the semifinals: Boudjimaâ, Ouacifs, Fathma N'Soumeur, and Fréha. The semifinals eliminated Boudjimaâ and Ouacifs, leaving Fathma N'Soumeur and Fréha to compete in the final. Fréha's Slimani Mohamed High School ultimately won with 51.75 points, narrowly beating Fadhma N'Soumeur High School's 51.25 points.
The winning school, Slimani Mohamed High School, received a computer as a prize, while students from both schools received pen sets and participation diplomas. Members of the judging panel were also awarded participation diplomas. Ali Ahmed, head of cultural activities at the Education Directorate, confirmed that the competition aimed to promote cultural exchange and academic excellence among Algerian high schools.
On the sidelines of the event, Education Director Boukhalfi addressed concerns about the upcoming baccalauréat exams, assuring that all necessary conditions would be met to support students, including catering services. He also mentioned that corrections for the Brevet d'Etudes Moyen (BEM) had begun and that results would be announced by the end of June.
The event concluded with a sense of accomplishment and enthusiasm for future competitions. The Inter-lycées culturel competition aims to foster a spirit of friendly competition and cultural exchange among Algerian high schools, promoting academic excellence and creative expression.
