On September 20, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers, which focused on several key issues, including the review of the special status and remuneration regime for civil protection personnel. The President emphasized the importance of revising their status, given the current climate change and major risks faced by civil protection personnel.
The Council of Ministers examined a proposal to increase salaries for civil protection personnel by revising the index points. The President also requested a review of the grade grid, taking into account the specificities of this corps and the classification of administrative and operational personnel missions. Additionally, the President ordered an increase in allowances for personnel intervening on the ground and their families.
President Tebboune stressed the need for continuous training for civil protection personnel throughout their careers to maintain a high level of operational effectiveness and preparation. He also ordered the technical and technological revision of intervention means and equipment, with the acquisition of modern devices and a plan for their renewal.
The President announced measures to strengthen civil protection, including the creation of surveillance points and posts in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture in high-density forest areas. He also ordered the progressive reinforcement of the water bomber aircraft fleet, depending on their availability on the international market, and the institutionalization of seasonal volunteering within civil protection.
The Council of Ministers also reviewed the 2025-2026 harvest-threshing campaign. President Tebboune tasked the Minister with developing a monthly bulletin and instructing walis to ensure rigorous monitoring to determine production levels and volumes of different cereal varieties. He also ordered the immediate digitization of the agricultural harvest payment system at the level of regional agencies of the Algerian Interprofessional Cereals Office.
President Tebboune called for revising the role of the Algerian Interprofessional Cereals Office and specialized institutes in the agriculture sector to improve their performance and modernize them. He also emphasized the need to combat all forms of deviation in the agriculture, rural development, and fisheries sectors.
The President instructed the government to finalize compensation operations for victims of fires, particularly in Jijel, which was the most affected region. He expressed gratitude to government members for their efforts and encouraged them to complete the remaining compensation operations as soon as possible.
