Algerian Minister of Irrigation Lounas Bouzagza chaired a working session to review the progress of structural and strategic projects overseen by the Algerian Water Corporation. The meeting was attended by central administration officials, the corporation's general manager, and its officials. The session focused on the status of ongoing projects and those about to be launched, particularly those related to long-distance connections of seawater desalination plants and enhancing drinking water supply.

The long-distance connection of seawater desalination plants was a key topic, with preparations underway to launch projects in all concerned provinces. New desalination plants in Tlemcen, Mostaganem, and Chlef will be connected through a network of over 250 km of canals. This aims to support and expand the drinking water supply to inland provinces. The minister emphasized the importance of these projects in meeting the country's water needs.

The meeting also reviewed several projects to enhance the drinking water supply. These include preparations for the Tinzawaten project, which will supply water from the Tanezrouft aquifer over 248 km in In Guezzam province. Another project involves connecting the Kedia Asserdoun system in Bouira province to the seawater desalination plant in Cap Djinet, Boumerdes province.

Additional projects aim to support the drinking water supply in various regions. These include supplying the city of El Kala and northeastern municipalities with water from the Dhiraa El Dis dam. The projects also involve supporting six municipalities in Mila province and two in Jijel province with water from the Tabloot dam.

Further projects were discussed, including supplying Souk Ahras, Mechroha, and Oulad Idriss municipalities with water from the Oued Jedra dam. A project to transfer raw water from the Oued Jedra dam to the Ain Dlia dam was also reviewed. The minister stressed the need to accelerate procedures and complete preparations to launch projects as soon as possible.

The projects also include expanding the Tilsedite dam water treatment plant in Bouira province and the Kedia El Mador water treatment plant in Batna province. The construction of two metal removal plants in Tindouf and In Salah provinces was also discussed. The minister emphasized the importance of completing these projects to enhance water security.

Minister Bouzagza emphasized the need to respect contractual deadlines and make up for delays in some projects. He highlighted the importance of these projects in ensuring a continuous drinking water supply across the country and promoting water security. The projects aim to improve the drinking water supply for millions of Algerians.
