He clarified that farmers and small traders are not solely responsible for the price increases, as they work diligently to provide for the population. Instead, he pointed to the manipulations of certain individuals who prioritize profits over the well-being of the nation. The minister assured citizens that the government is actively monitoring the situation and will take necessary measures to regulate prices.
The minister also addressed the fluctuations in prices of other essential goods, such as poultry. He explained that the recent increase in poultry prices is largely due to the significant losses incurred by the sector following recent fires in eastern Algeria and high temperatures. Additionally, he noted that the global increase in maritime transportation costs and insurance premiums has contributed to the rise in prices of imported goods.
In response to the economic challenges posed by natural disasters, the minister reported that the government has fulfilled its commitment to compensate affected individuals. He stated that all compensation procedures have been completed under the leadership of the Prime Minister, with the aim of supporting those impacted. Furthermore, the minister expressed confidence that poultry prices will return to normal in the near future.
The minister highlighted Algeria's agricultural achievements, citing a record production value of $37 billion in 2025 and 42 million quintals of wheat. He emphasized that such accomplishments make it unacceptable for certain goods, like potatoes, to be sold at inflated prices. The minister stressed the importance of unity and solidarity in addressing economic challenges and ensuring the well-being of citizens.
The minister also touched on the security situation, particularly along Algeria's southern borders and in the regional environment. He reported a significant influx of irregular migrants, with over 5,000 individuals recorded in a single region. The minister praised the efforts of security forces and the National People's Army for their dedication to protecting the country's borders.
Despite regional challenges, the minister noted that Algeria continues to achieve a growth rate of 4%. He highlighted the government's ongoing development projects, including major infrastructure initiatives aimed at connecting isolated areas and promoting economic growth. These projects include the construction of thousands of kilometers of roads and the launch of a 2,400 km land route from Algeria to the Nigerian border.
