The Algerian city of Oran has witnessed a significant boost in development projects as the country celebrated the 72nd anniversary of the outbreak of its liberation revolution. The projects, which span various sectors, were launched and inaugurated by Oran's Wali, Ibrahim Ouchane. The move is part of a commemorative program for this historical date. Among the projects is the renovation of the Rue des Aurès, which hosts the famous La Bastille fruit and vegetable market.
The Rue des Aurès renovation project, overseen by the Directorate of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, involves renewing the road surface, laying pavers, and bitumizing the road. The project also includes constructing a rainwater drainage network connected to the existing network. The project aims to reorganize the public space, improve the distribution of vendor stalls, and delineate sales areas and pedestrian walkways. The Wali emphasized the importance of adhering to contractual deadlines and technical standards.
Another significant project launched in the Emir commune is the development of 22 urban roads across five neighborhoods. The project, which has a three-month deadline, aims to improve the state of the roads and provide a more pleasant urban environment for residents. The sports sector also saw a boost with the inauguration of the Toula Allal communal stadium after renovation and rehabilitation works.
The stadium's renovation is part of efforts to rehabilitate local sports infrastructure and provide young people and children with suitable spaces for sports activities. On the road infrastructure front, the Wali launched the construction of a 1.5 km stretch of the Wilaya Road 45, which includes a roundabout at the Bouamama neighborhood. The project, expected to be completed within eight months, aims to ease traffic congestion, particularly during the summer season.
The health sector also benefited from the development drive with the inauguration of the third linear accelerator for cancer treatment at the El Amir Abdelkader specialized oncology hospital. The equipment is part of the national cancer control program initiated by the President of the Republic. The Wali was presented with a technical briefing on the equipment's features and the hospital's therapeutic activity.
The new equipment is expected to enhance radiotherapy capacity, particularly for patients from several western Algerian provinces. In addition to these projects, a new pedestrian bridge was inaugurated on the National Road 11 near the Miloud Hadefi Olympic Stadium. The bridge aims to improve pedestrian safety and reduce risks associated with crossing this busy road.
Other projects that were completed or launched include the development of a roundabout on Wilaya Road 46 near the Es-Sabah bus station and the installation of a public lighting network on the fourth peripheral road connecting Es-Senia to Misserghine. These projects reflect the local authorities' efforts to accelerate development and improve public infrastructure in Oran.
