The Algerian People's National Army (ANP) announced on Wednesday that a terrorist had surrendered to military authorities in In Guezzam, as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and organized crime. According to the ANP's operational report for the period from September 16 to 22, 2026, the terrorist, identified as "Abu Baraka," was in possession of a Kalashnikov-type assault rifle, ammunition, and other items.
In addition to the terrorist's surrender, ANP units and detachments carried out several operations across the country, resulting in the arrest of 7 elements supporting terrorist groups. These operations reflect the high level of professionalism, vigilance, and readiness of Algerian armed forces nationwide. The ANP continues to intensify efforts to counter terrorism and organized crime in all its forms.
The ANP also reported significant achievements in combating drug trafficking. Joint detachments of the ANP, in coordination with various security services, arrested 38 drug traffickers and foiled attempts to smuggle 2 tons and 73 kg of processed cannabis resin across the border with Morocco. Furthermore, authorities seized 58 kg of cocaine and 136,538 psychotropic tablets during operations across military sectors.
In the fight against illegal gold prospecting, ANP detachments in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Illizi, and In Salah arrested 134 individuals and confiscated 30 vehicles, 192 electric generators, 128 pressure hammers, and quantities of raw gold ore and stones, as well as equipment used in unauthorized gold prospecting operations.
The ANP also reported thwarting irregular migration attempts along the national coastlines, rescuing 320 people on board makeshift boats. Additionally, authorities arrested 717 irregular migrants of various nationalities across the country. These efforts demonstrate the Algerian army's commitment to securing borders and combating organized crime.
In a separate incident, a traffic accident in Tiaret resulted in 2 fatalities and 6 injuries. This accident occurred as authorities continued to enforce measures to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents on Algerian roads.
