Algeria's national agricultural equipment production company, Sambo, based in Sidi Bel Abbès, is working on a new project to produce harvesting machines equipped with artificial intelligence (AI). The machines are expected to be marketed starting next year, according to a production department official. Sambo is developing its products in partnership with Finland to meet the requirements of the agricultural sector.

The company has prepared a roadmap to develop its products, which includes producing 20 harvesting machines with automatic steering systems by the end of this year. Next year, Sambo will manufacture a new line of harvesting machines equipped with AI, making it easier to operate them and reducing grain losses during harvesting. The machines will be available in the national market before the start of the next agricultural season.

The AI-equipped harvesting machines will be programmed to perform their tasks efficiently, minimizing grain waste during harvesting. This project aims to provide farmers with good conditions for harvesting grain crops. Sambo organized training sessions for harvesting machine drivers during the 2025-2026 agricultural season, benefiting 100 drivers from across the country.

The training sessions focused on protecting grain crops from loss and reducing annual losses, estimated between 15% and 30%. The company plans to organize similar training sessions for operating the new generation of advanced harvesting machines. Last year, Sambo marketed a new generation of advanced harvesting machines, including large-sized machines equipped with air conditioning and devices indicating the harvested quantity.

The large-sized harvesting machines, designed for the Saharan region, were manufactured with international standards in partnership with Finland, with an integration rate of 70%. The machines were designed to withstand the harsh desert climate. Sambo, which employs around 300 workers, can produce up to 1,000 advanced harvesting machines annually, with a 70% integration rate.

Sambo aims to increase the integration rate to 77% by the end of this year. The company uses entirely Algerian materials, from raw materials to finished products, manufactured using advanced technology. The factory performs all processes, including cutting, folding, welding, and surface treatment, using modern means that match global technologies.

The production of AI-equipped harvesting machines is part of Sambo's strategy to develop its products and meet the needs of the agricultural sector. The company is working to improve its products and increase its production capacity. The new generation of harvesting machines is expected to improve the efficiency of harvesting operations and reduce losses.
