Algeria's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Baddari, chaired the third multi-sectoral meeting to review the implementation of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy. The meeting was attended by various sectoral committees and aimed to transition from the planning phase to the actual implementation of the strategy's priority axes and projects. The meeting reviewed the progress of sectoral financial estimates required to cover programmed operations within the strategy's roadmap.
The Data and Basic Structures Committee identified 17 operations related to basic structures and 14 operations related to data for 2026. These operations include determining future needs for structures and equipment necessary for localizing artificial intelligence applications. A proposal to establish a complex that brings together public and private economic institutions was made to enhance integration between national technological and economic capacities.
The committee approved a revised draft decree establishing a national research center for artificial intelligence and data. The draft will be submitted to relevant authorities to complete legal procedures. The Finance Committee presented various sources and mechanisms for financing projects and operations related to the strategy, including public financing, establishing a national fund, and international financing.
The Large Language Models Committee reported on the progress of four large language models and another model for students enrolled in a personal pathway. The Doctoral Committee in Artificial Intelligence presented training axes for a doctoral program, with a competition to be announced in November 2026. The Continuous Training Committee in Artificial Intelligence identified 85 training operations to develop human resource skills.
The International Cooperation Committee highlighted the institutional frameworks and international initiatives that Algeria is part of in the field of artificial intelligence. The committee emphasized priority areas that should be directed to serve national goals. The National Thematic Network for Research in Artificial Intelligence will oversee operations within the national strategy.
The network will implement national research projects starting in October 2026. The meeting demonstrated the implementation of the national artificial intelligence strategy, focusing on resource mobilization, infrastructure and data development, human capacity building, and international cooperation.
The strategy aims to transform artificial intelligence into a driver of development, innovation, and value creation. Key stakeholders are working together to ensure the successful implementation of the strategy, which will have a significant impact on Algeria's technological and economic development.
