Algeria has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the goals of the African Petroleum Producers' Organization (APPO) and its initiatives to empower the continent to effectively and fairly harness its natural resources. This commitment was made by Minister of State for Energy, Mohamed Arkab, during a meeting with APPO Secretary-General, Fired Ghazali, who is on a working visit to Algeria to participate in the 14th edition of the North Africa Petroleum & Energy Show (NAPEC 2026).
The discussions, attended by Sonatrach CEO, Noor Eddine Dawdi, and other ministry officials, provided an opportunity to exchange views on enhancing cooperation between Algeria and APPO in the oil and gas sector, particularly in training, research, and development. The meeting also covered recent developments in international energy markets and the prospects for African partnerships in the face of global energy sector transformations.
Minister Arkab emphasized Algeria's commitment to sharing its expertise in exploration, production, refining, and training with African countries. He highlighted the role of the Algerian Petroleum Institute in qualifying African skills and enabling them to face technical and professional challenges in the energy sector. Arkab also underscored the capabilities of Sonatrach, Algeria's national oil company, to support African countries in optimizing their hydrocarbon resources.
Ghazali expressed his gratitude to Algeria for its continued support for APPO's objectives, praising its role in training and human resource development, as well as promoting research and innovation in the hydrocarbons sector. He emphasized the importance of oil and gas in supporting development in Africa and enhancing the continent's energy sovereignty.

The country has been actively engaged in APPO, contributing to the organization's efforts to promote African energy interests.
The meeting also covered organizational aspects, the roadmap, and APPO's work program for the coming years, as well as recent developments in the African Energy Bank, which is expected to facilitate and enhance financing for the development of Africa's oil, gas, and energy industries. Algeria reiterated its support for the bank's initiatives to promote economic integration and sustainable development.
