The Algerian government has launched the country's first bachelor's-master's program in journalism in the Amazigh language. The program, which was inaugurated on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the University of Algiers 3, aims to promote the use of the Amazigh language in the media. The first batch of students, consisting of 75 students from various parts of the country, will benefit from this specialized university training in Amazigh journalism. Minister of Communication, Mohamed Bouslimani, attended the launch ceremony, expressing his readiness to support the program.
The Secretary General of the High Commission for Amazighity, Si El Hachemi Essad, stated that the launch of this program represents a significant achievement in the integration of the Amazigh language in specialized training and professional practice. He emphasized that the project was initiated in response to a request from the university, highlighting the need for specialized training in Amazigh journalism.
The program is seen as a step towards promoting the Amazigh language and culture in Algeria.
