The 14th edition of the North Africa and Mediterranean Energy and Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition, NAPAC 2026, took place in Algeria from October 5 to 7. The event saw the participation of over 450 exhibitors and 230 speakers, including officials and experts, to discuss the future of the energy mix, security of supply, decarbonization, and the development of hydrogen technologies.

On the sidelines of NAPAC 2026, Algeria's National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources, ALNEPET, signed two study agreements with Vietnam's Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation. The agreements aim to assess the technical potential for improving hydrocarbon recovery in the Bir Isa and Rourde El Baga fields in the Berkine region of southeastern Algeria.

The agreements, which have a duration of 12 months, will involve analyzing available data and studying reservoir behavior to improve the exploitation of discovered resources and increase the recovery rate of reserves. The signing ceremony was attended by ALNEPET's CEO, Abdelkader Cherfaoui, and Vietnam's ambassador to Algeria, Phuc Duy Long.

Phuc Duy Long described the agreements as a concrete step towards enhancing cooperation between Vietnamese and Algerian companies in the hydrocarbon sector. He emphasized that Algeria is a crucial partner for Vietnam in Africa, with significant potential for cooperation in the energy field.

The UK and European Union have expressed interest in expanding cooperation and investment in Algeria's energy sector. British Ambassador to Algeria, James Downer, stated that the investment environment provided by Algeria's energy sector is attracting increasing attention from British companies and groups.

Downer emphasized the importance of establishing long-term partnerships between Algerian and British operators based on technology transfer, expertise, and creating added value. He also mentioned that British actors, including Clark Energy, are willing to contribute to the development of Algeria's energy resources, clean energies, and energy transition.

European Union Ambassador to Algeria, Diego Miado Pascoa, highlighted the strategic importance of the EU-Algeria energy partnership, describing Algeria as a reliable, strong, and strategic partner for Europe, particularly in the field of gas supplies. He noted that Algeria can play a key role in reshaping energy alliances and reliance in Europe.
