The Algerian government has extended the partial home confinement measure in 34 wilayas for an additional 15 days, starting from Thursday, October 17, 2020. This decision was made during a meeting of the Government, presided over by Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad, and in accordance with the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The measure aims to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect citizens' health.
The partial home confinement will be in effect from 8 PM to 5 AM the next day. The 34 wilayas concerned by this measure include Adrar, Laghouat, Oum El Bouaghi, Batna, Bejaia, Biskra, Blida, Bouira, Tebessa, Tlemcen, Tiaret, Tizi-Ouzou, Alger, Jijel, Sétif, Guelma, Annaba, Constantine, Médéa, Mostaganem, M’Sila, Ouargla, Oran, Illizi, Bordj Bou Arréridj, Boumerdes, El Tarf, Tindouf, Tissemsilt, El Oued, Khenchela, Souk Ahras, Tipaza, and Ain Temouchent.
In contrast, 14 wilayas will not be subject to the partial home confinement measure, including Chlef, Béchar, Tamenghasset, Djelfa, Saïda, Skikda, Sidi Bel Abbes, Mascara, El Bayadh, Mila, Ain Defla, Naâma, Ghardaia, and Relizane. However, the walis (local authorities) of these wilayas can take additional measures to address the health situation in their respective areas.
The government has also decided to continue the services of public air transport of passengers on the domestic network, with 50% of flights serving the northern wilayas and 100% serving the southern wilayas. The authorities have emphasized the importance of strict adherence to health protocols in airports and on board aircraft.
In addition to the confinement measures, the government has extended the closure of certain activities and establishments for 15 days in the 34 wilayas concerned. These include the closure of sports halls, recreational spaces, beaches, youth centers, and cultural centers. The government has also limited the operating hours of certain businesses, such as appliance stores, household goods stores, and cafes.
The authorities have also reiterated their calls for caution and discipline among citizens, emphasizing the importance of continued mobilization to combat the spread of COVID-19. The government has warned that it will apply sanctions to those who fail to comply with the measures put in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
The extension of the partial home confinement measure aims to consolidate the gains made in the fight against COVID-19 and to prevent a resurgence of the pandemic. The government will continue to monitor the health situation and adjust its measures as necessary to protect citizens' health and well-being.
