Algeria's Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi, recently chaired a coordination meeting to review the country's tourist land situation. The meeting aimed to enhance the investment climate and facilitate project implementation. It was attended by central administration officials and representatives from the National Tourist Land Agency (ANFT). The discussion focused on mobilizing and valorizing economic land, aligning with the country's high authorities' orientations.
During the meeting, Meddahi emphasized that the tourism sector's development relies on providing clear, developed, and exploitable land. She highlighted the importance of a digital approach, unified data, and improved tourist land attractiveness for investment. An update was presented on the classification of 238 tourist zones and sites across 50 provinces. This includes 86 tourist expansion zones (ZET) with tourist development plans, and 25 ZETs that have been developed.
The meeting also covered the progress of 294 hotel projects in ZETs, with 111 under concession and 183 on private land. Meddahi provided instructions to update tourist land data, accelerate ZET development and connection to networks, and promote innovative investment formulas. She stressed the need for coordination among local authorities, ANFT, and other stakeholders to resolve pending situations and overcome obstacles.
Meddahi called for adopting a unified digital system for tourist land, including a national file with detailed information on each land plot. This would enable investors to access reliable information, improving transparency and efficiency in allocating land for investment. The goal of mobilizing tourist land is not only to provide areas for investment but also to direct this asset towards generating value-added projects, creating wealth and jobs, and supporting local development.
The development of tourist land is crucial for Algeria's tourism sector growth. The minister's efforts aim to create an attractive environment for investors, both local and foreign. By streamlining the process and providing necessary infrastructure, Algeria hopes to increase its tourism potential. The country has seen progress in its tourism sector, as reflected in its improved ranking in the global tourism index.
Algeria's tourism sector has been gaining momentum, with the country advancing in the global tourism index.
