On the sidelines of the 14th edition of the Africa and Mediterranean Energy and Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition "Naback 2026", Algeria and Vietnam signed two study agreements. The agreements were between the National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (Alnaft) and the Vietnamese company for the exploration and production of oil and gas (PVEP). The agreements aim to study the possibilities of improving the recovery of hydrocarbons from two fields in the southeastern region of Algeria.

The two agreements concern the study of possibilities for improving the recovery of hydrocarbons from the "Hassi Messaoud/Rakine" (Rourd El Baghl) and "Lake Issa" fields, both located in the Berkine region of southeastern Algeria. The signing ceremony was attended by the President of Alnaft, Abdelkader Cherfaoui, and the Vietnamese Ambassador, Fu Dui Long. The agreements mark a significant step in strengthening cooperation between Algerian and Vietnamese institutions in the hydrocarbons sector.

The Vietnamese Ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the signing of the agreements, describing them as a concrete and positive step that will contribute to enhancing cooperation between Vietnamese institutions and their Algerian partners in the hydrocarbons sector. He also expressed his confidence that the joint studies will provide additional scientific and technical bases for the two parties to reassess the possibility of cooperation in the field of oil exploration and production.

The Ambassador highlighted Algeria's importance as a partner for Vietnam in North Africa, citing its significant potential for cooperation in the energy sector. He praised the dynamic nature of the cooperation and expressed his hope for increased technical exchanges and continued efforts to expand and deepen cooperation in the hydrocarbons sector. The agreements reflect the desire to optimize the exploitation of discovered hydrocarbon resources and encourage the use of solutions and technologies that allow for improved recovery of available reserves.

The main objective of these studies is to evaluate the technical possibilities and conditions that allow for improved recovery of hydrocarbons from each field, based on an analysis of available data and a study of reservoir behavior. The studies will examine the suitability of various enhanced recovery options and technologies, taking into account the specific characteristics of each field and its production conditions.

Through these agreements, PVEP will contribute its technical expertise and knowledge in the field of hydrocarbon production to help evaluate the best applicable technical options for improving recovery. Alnaft will provide the necessary data and information to carry out the studies and monitor and coordinate the work with the Vietnamese company. The signing of these agreements reflects a practical approach aimed at improving the recovery of current hydrocarbon resources and extending the productive life of the fields.

The agreements also mark a new stage in the development of cooperation between Algeria and Vietnam, particularly between Alnaft and PVEP, in the field of upstream hydrocarbon activities (exploration and production). The two countries are targeting new horizons for cooperation, with a focus on optimizing hydrocarbon resources and improving recovery rates. The agreements are expected to have a positive impact on the development of the hydrocarbons sector in Algeria and Vietnam.
