Algeria and Spain have signed two cooperation agreements to ensure a stable supply of red meat in anticipation of Ramadan 2027. The agreements were signed in Algiers on Monday between Algerian and Spanish entities. The first agreement was signed between the Algerian Red Meat Company "Alviar" and the Spanish professional organizations "Antrofiche" and "Proveco". The second agreement was signed between the National Union of Red Meat Importers and the same Spanish organizations.

The agreements aim to strengthen the exchange of information, expertise, and improve animal breeds and logistics services. According to Mohamed Rezki, CEO of Alviar, the agreements are part of the efforts to meet the demand during the holy month of Ramadan. Rezki stated that the Algerian company, in coordination with the Ministry of Trade, has taken all necessary measures to ensure a stable supply of red meat during Ramadan, in line with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The National Union of Red Meat Importers has started preparations for Ramadan six months in advance. Sufiane Bahbo, spokesperson for the union, announced that all necessary quantities of red meat will be imported to avoid any shortages. Bahbo emphasized that the partnership with Spanish operators will contribute to strengthening their presence in Algeria. He also highlighted the importance of modernizing slaughterhouses and developing intensive cattle farming in the southern region.

Spanish Ambassador to Algeria, Ramiro Fernandez Bachiller, expressed his country's desire to go beyond the stage of commercial exchanges with Algeria. Bachiller emphasized the desire to develop sustainable bilateral cooperation in the livestock sector, given Spain's position as Algeria's main supplier of red meat. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation in the field of intensive cattle farming.

The economic and commercial counselor at the Spanish Embassy, Cristina E Olazabal Valenti, noted Algeria's position as a major market for Spanish beef exports outside the European Union. According to Valenti, Algeria is the main destination for Spanish beef exports outside the EU. The agreements were signed on the sidelines of a bilateral meeting held under the theme "Unifying Markets, Supporting the Sector".

The meeting concluded with bilateral meetings between Algerian and Spanish economic operators to explore opportunities for cooperation and partnership in the red meat sector. The agreements are expected to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and Spain in the livestock sector and ensure a stable supply of red meat during Ramadan 2027.

The partnerships are also expected to contribute to the development of intensive cattle farming in Algeria and improve the country's self-sufficiency in red meat production. The agreements demonstrate the commitment of both countries to strengthening bilateral cooperation and promoting trade in the agricultural sector.
