Alexandria University has successfully executed a medical and community outreach program in Bashayer Al-Khair, under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of the University, and the supervision of Dr. Afaf Al-Ofi, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development. The program aimed to deliver medical and educational services to residents in need.
The outreach program saw the participation of 20 students from various faculties, including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Education, in collaboration with the National Council for Women and the Hayat Kareema Foundation. This initiative aligns with the university's efforts to enhance its community role and extend services to areas with the greatest need.
Dr. Tamer Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, emphasized that the program reflects the faculty's commitment to activating its community role and providing medical services to citizens. The initiative also offered students the opportunity to engage in field activities, fostering their practical experience and instilling a sense of social responsibility.
The program achieved significant results, with medical examinations conducted on 280 cases across various specialties, including 97 internal medicine cases, 28 cardiovascular cases, 70 chest cases, and 85 dental cases. Essential medications were provided free of charge, and seven critical cases were referred to Alexandria University's Main Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
In support of the university's literacy programs, the outreach included on-the-spot exams for 55 uneducated residents, coordinated with the Faculty of Education and the General Authority for Adult Education. This initiative enables participants to proceed with obtaining literacy certificates.
The event also featured a theatrical performance, distribution of educational supplies and gifts, and several awareness-raising workshops on handicrafts and various activities. This comprehensive approach combined health, education, culture, and entertainment, strengthening direct communication between the university and the local community in Bashayer Al-Khair.
