According to Akpabio, his wife was in a coma for six months and was given a 2% chance of survival. However, after he invoked the intercession of St. Padre Pio, she made a remarkable recovery. Akpabio stated that the hospital was still unable to understand what happened. This experience has strengthened his faith in the power of St. Padre Pio's intercession.

This was Akpabio's 10th visit to the prayer ground, and he came with his family to express gratitude to God and St. Padre Pio for his intercession. Akpabio mentioned that they had honored St. Padre Pio by naming their son after him and establishing the PIO Football Academy, which offers scholarships to underprivileged children.
