Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence in the All Progressives Congress's (APC) chances of winning in the South South region, particularly in Rivers State. He made this statement at the Rivers State Rainbow Coalition rally held at the Adokie Amasiemeka Stadium in Port Harcourt. Akpabio emphasized that the presence of peace and unity among stakeholders and political leaders in the region would guarantee President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's victory.
Akpabio highlighted Rivers State's track record in elections, noting that the state was the only one in the South South region where the APC won in 2023. He attributed this success to the leadership of President Tinubu, who he said had demonstrated a commitment to the state's development. The Senate President also praised the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his achievements in Abuja, describing him as a "square peg in a square hole."
According to Akpabio, Rivers people have several reasons to support President Tinubu's re-election bid. He cited the Students Loan Fund, which has benefited over 100,000 students from the state, as well as the president's efforts to reform the economy and tax system. Akpabio noted that under President Tinubu, Nigeria's foreign reserves had increased from $4.5 billion to over $50 billion.
The Senate President also mentioned the impact of President Tinubu's policies on the nation's economy and infrastructure. He highlighted the unification of the tax system, which has resulted in increased revenue for the government, and the construction of the Coastal road, which is expected to boost economic and commercial activities in the region.
Akpabio urged the South South people to continue supporting President Tinubu's administration, citing its commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. He expressed confidence that despite being a popular party, the APC would continue to campaign and engage with the people to ensure their victory in the 2027 elections.
The Senate President prayed that the recent rallies in Akwa Ibom and Rivers states would not be in vain and that President Tinubu and the APC would emerge victorious on January 16, 2027. He emphasized that the party would continue to work hard to ensure that their victory is secured.
Akpabio's prediction is based on the APC's performance in the region, particularly in Rivers State, where the party won resoundingly in 2023. The Senate President's statement has been seen as a boost to the party's morale and a call to action for its members to work towards a successful 2027 election.
