Algerian national carrier Air Algérie has announced the resumption of flights to Tripoli, Libya, after a 10-year interruption. The flights were suspended in 2016 due to security concerns. The company had been working towards resuming operations to the Libyan capital, and an agreement was signed in April between the Algerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Libyan Ministry of Transport to revive inter-state air links.
The agreement allowed for 14 weekly frequencies for each country, but a specific date for the resumption of flights was not provided. The initial flight from Algiers to Tripoli will be followed by regular services, with two flights per week scheduled for every Wednesday and Friday. Tickets for the flights are already available for booking on Air Algérie's official website. Prices for the inaugural flight from Algiers to Tripoli start at 37,500 Algerian Dinar, while the return flight from Tripoli on October 30 is offered from 243 euros.
In addition to resuming flights to Tripoli, Air Algérie has also reopened reservations for flights between Algiers and Doha, Qatar, after a seven-month suspension. The Doha route was halted due to geopolitical tensions and security concerns in the Middle East, which led to the temporary closure of several regional air corridors and the suspension of various routes operated by the national carrier.
The resumption of the Algiers-Doha route is expected to benefit numerous travelers and businesspeople, as Doha serves as a major hub for connections to Asia and Oceania. The suspension of this route had previously forced passengers to take longer and more expensive transit routes via other European or Middle Eastern capitals.
