National Chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has welcomed delegates to Kumasi for the party's National Delegates Conference and National Executives elections. The conference, scheduled for October 3, 2026, is themed "One Party, One Purpose: United for Victory." Mr. Agyarko, a former Energy Minister, said the conference presents an opportunity for the NPP to reset its structures and position itself for a decisive victory in 2028.

Mr. Agyarko emphasized that the party cannot rely on "business as usual" if it is to regain power, arguing that it requires tested, principled, and fearless leadership with the grassroots at the center of its operations. He proposed a leadership agenda, dubbed "R.I.S.E.," built around four pillars: Reconciliation and Genuine Unity, Integrity of the Constitution and Discipline, Support for the Grassroots, and Election Readiness for 2028.

Under the R.I.S.E. agenda, Mr. Agyarko pledged to work towards healing internal wounds and factional divisions, while restoring mutual respect among party members. He also promised to uphold the NPP's constitution and ensure that the party's rules apply equally to all members, regardless of their positions. Discipline, transparency, and fairness would be central to his proposed administration.

Mr. Agyarko also emphasized the need for practical assistance for grassroots executives, who carry much of the burden of election campaigns. He proposed year-round welfare packages, structured capacity-building programs, and direct, predictable logistical support for grassroots executives. Additionally, he pledged to establish a modern election and ballot-security architecture to prepare the party for the 2028 elections.

The NPP National Delegates Conference and National Executives elections have garnered significant attention, with recent surveys producing varying findings on the chairmanship race. A Ghana Watch Initiative International (GWII) delegate preference survey conducted from September 1 to 12 placed Mr. Agyarko first among the candidates, with 51.81 percent support from 2,098 constituency executives sampled.

Other surveys, however, have produced different results. A September 30 Global InfoAnalytics poll put former NPP General Secretary John Boadu ahead of Mr. Agyarko by 48 percent to 38 percent among its sampled delegates. The differing findings underscore the competitiveness of the contest as delegates prepare to elect the party's national executives.

Mr. Agyarko urged delegates arriving from across Ghana and the party's external branches to see the conference as an opportunity to strengthen the NPP. He described the delegates as the "lifeblood" and "foundation" of the party and called for unity of purpose as the party prepares for the next general election. The conference is expected to chart a new course for the NPP ahead of the 2028 general election.
