The Agadez region in Niger has launched the replanning process for its 2026-2030 Regional Development Plan (PDR). The initiative was officially launched by the region's governor, General Ibra Boulama Issa, on October 29, 2026. This new plan aims to provide a strategic planning instrument for the region, aligning with the Programme for the Refondation de la République. The process seeks to ensure continuity of regional development actions following the dissolution of regional councils in April 2024.

The replanning process intends to build on lessons learned from the previous 2022-2026 PDR and define new priorities tailored to the region's realities and potential. The goal is to harmonize territorial planning tools with national strategic orientations, enhancing the coherence and effectiveness of interventions for the population. A Comité régional de coordination and a Comité technique régional de planification have been established to oversee the process, validate strategic orientations, and ensure programmatic coherence.

The new PDR is expected to address key challenges faced by the region, including access to basic social services, valorization of agro-sylvo-pastoral resources, exploitation of mining and energy potential, improvement of the road network, effects of climate change, and migration issues. The governor emphasized the need for a development approach that promotes endogenous growth based on local potential, reduces inequalities, and strengthens social cohesion and national unity.

To achieve these objectives, the Comité Technique régional has been tasked with conducting a rigorous analysis of past achievements, constraints, and development prospects. This will inform recommendations for the next planning cycle. The governor invited committee members to ensure their analysis is objective and comprehensive, leading to pertinent recommendations for the region's future development.

The launch of the replanning process marks a significant step in Agadez's development planning, aiming to better align local priorities with national orientations and enhance the effectiveness of development actions for the population. This initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize regional development in Niger, ensuring that local needs and potential are fully considered in strategic planning.

General Ibra Boulama Issa highlighted the importance of stakeholder engagement and participation in the replanning process. He encouraged all relevant actors to contribute to the development of a comprehensive and inclusive plan that reflects the region's needs and aspirations. This collaborative approach is expected to foster a sense of ownership and ensure the plan's successful implementation.

The replanning process for the 2026-2030 PDR is a critical exercise for the Agadez region, as it seeks to address pressing challenges and capitalize on opportunities for sustainable development. By engaging stakeholders and leveraging local potential, the region aims to create a more equitable and prosperous future for its inhabitants.
