Africacomicade, a Pan-African launchpad for the video games and immersive media industry, has partnered with the GIZ Digital Transformation Centre (DTC) Nigeria programme to support young Nigerian game developers and emerging studio founders. The partnership aims to provide a specialised game development bootcamp and international industry exposure. This collaboration builds on DTC Nigeria's support for Nigerian games industry stakeholders to attend Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany.
The partnership was implemented through the ICT Skills for Youth initiative of DTC Nigeria, which is co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Union, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. At Gamescom 2026, Nigerian game developers and studio founders engaged with international publishers, investors, and industry leaders, gaining insight into one of the world's most developed games markets.
The exposure at Gamescom 2026 created opportunities for Nigerian game developers to establish relationships beyond the local market. Edu Shola, founder of Deluxe Studios, one of the Nigerian studios supported to attend Gamescom, highlighted the value of the initiative, stating that it provided a presence in spaces where business opportunities and relationships are fostered.
Africacomicade and GIZ Nigeria will deliver a specialised game development bootcamp for young talent and emerging game businesses. The bootcamp will combine game development workflows with business strategy, helping participants develop commercially viable games and build sustainable creative enterprises. This will create new employment opportunities and support the growth of Nigeria's games sector.
The programme will culminate in a showcase at Gamathon 2026 in Lagos, where participants and other Nigerian creators will have an opportunity to showcase their work and connect with the wider games ecosystem. Africacomicade brings sector expertise and networks spanning games, animation, comics, and interactive media.
Michael Oscar Esio, founder of Africacomicade, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it will help build stronger foundations and partnerships that can propel the Nigerian games sector forward. The global games industry has evolved into one of the world's largest entertainment and interactive media sectors, generating significant economic value.
For Nigeria, the opportunity extends beyond creating games for local audiences, with a young population, growing technology ecosystem, and deep pool of creative talent and cultural stories. Nigeria has the potential to develop globally competitive game studios and intellectual property while creating new pathways into the digital economy.
