Oyo State's Allied Peoples' Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Honourable Bimbo Adekanmbi, has praised teachers as nation builders and pledged to prioritize their development if elected. In a statement released on Sunday, October 5, 2026, Adekanmbi commended teachers for their dedication to shaping young minds and future leaders. He noted that a nation's development is directly tied to the quality of its teachers.
Adekanmbi cited Oyo State's reported third-place ranking nationwide in recent National Examinations Council (NECO) performance metrics as evidence of teachers' significant contributions to educational improvements. He attributed this achievement to teachers' dedication, professionalism, and cooperation. The APM candidate described teachers as dependable partners in the development of the education sector.
Adekanmbi honored teachers, acknowledging their role in teaching resilience, kindness, critical thinking, and belief in one's potential, beyond academic lessons. He pledged that his administration, under "Omituntun 3.0," would build on existing policies and programs aimed at improving teachers' welfare and professional development.
The APM candidate promised to maintain prompt payment of salaries, including the regular payment on the 25th of every month, known as "GSM Day." He also pledged to sustain the promotion and upgrading of teachers in line with global standards, as well as allowances and incentives, including the 27.5 percent teaching allowance, leave bonuses, and 13th-month salary bonuses.
Adekanmbi further promised to sustain and expand leadership opportunities for educators, including appointments as Permanent Secretaries, Tutors General, and Inspectors General. He stated that teachers are the architects of Oyo State's future and will receive the respect, support, and opportunities they deserve under Omituntun 3.0.
The APM candidate announced plans to introduce further reforms aimed at empowering teachers and advancing the education sector. Adekanmbi's campaign council spokesperson, Yinka Oladoyinbo, released the statement on behalf of the candidate.
