The Adamawa State Government has reiterated its dedication to promoting environmental cleanliness and personal hygiene across the state. This commitment was reaffirmed during a recent sanitation enforcement exercise conducted in various parts of Yola. The exercise was led by officials of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, who visited several locations to monitor compliance with environmental sanitation directives.
The enforcement team, comprising officials from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, was divided into two teams. One team covered Yola North Local Government Area, while the other monitored Yola South. The teams visited areas such as Jambutu, Jimeta Bypass, Doubeli, and Mai Doki Roundabout to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Mohammed Sadiq, led the exercise and expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance in some areas.
During the exercise, the Commissioner commended residents in areas where significant compliance was recorded and urged them to sustain the practice. He noted that increasing participation indicated growing public awareness of the importance of a clean environment to public health. However, Sadiq expressed concern over the attitude of some residents and traders who continued to violate environmental regulations despite repeated warnings.
Some traders were found openly displaying and selling goods during the sanitation exercise in defiance of government directives. The Commissioner warned that continued violations would not be tolerated and urged residents, traders, and business owners to take environmental sanitation seriously. He also called for cooperation with the government in its efforts to maintain cleaner and healthier communities.
The State Comptroller of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Hajiya Safiya Mohammed Abubakar, and the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Environmental Protection Agency (ADSEPA), Dr. Umar Usman Ibrahim, commended residents for their cooperation during the exercise. They described the level of compliance as encouraging and called on citizens to continue supporting government policies and programmes designed to ensure a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
The officials also commended the media for its continued role in sensitising the public and promoting awareness of environmental sanitation activities across the state.
