Residents of Ada-Foah in the Ada East District have petitioned the District Security Committee (DISEC) to intervene in an alleged blockage of a community access road, footpath, and waterway at Maano. According to the petitioners, the previous fence wall was recently pulled down, and a new foundation was constructed beyond its original position. This has allegedly blocked a route that has been used by residents for generations as a vehicular and pedestrian access to the riverside and a public toilet. The residents are requesting that the authorities halt construction in the disputed area, remove any obstruction if encroachment is found, and assess damage to the road and drainage system.
The petitioners also urged the authorities to determine whether the necessary planning and development permits have been obtained and investigate an allegation of improper involvement by some district assembly officials in facilitating the development. The residents believe that the construction has the potential to cause significant harm to the community and are seeking intervention from DISEC and other relevant institutions.
Mr Kenneth Kabu Kofi Kanor, Ada East District Chief Executive, received the petition on behalf of DISEC. He commended the youth for resorting to the authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands and pledged that the necessary action would be taken to address the situation. The District Chief Executive's response suggests that the authorities are taking the matter seriously.
