The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has scheduled a three-hour blackout for parts of Greater Accra on Sunday, November 1, 2026. The outage, set to run from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, will affect over 29 communities across the region. According to ECG, the disruption is necessary for emergency maintenance works aimed at strengthening electricity service delivery in the affected areas.

Some of the locations expected to lose power during the outage include Afariwaa Junction, Sanco 4, Yellow Sign Board, Michel Camp and Gate, Kakasunaka, Gbetsile, Soldier Line, Prayer Camp, Tema International School, EU China Mall, Tulaku, Don Bosco, Bethlehem, Sebrepor, Goshen, White Estates, Afienya (Emef's and Coastal Estates), Halleluyah, Community 22, Zenu (Washington and Switzerland), Aviation, Official Town, Christian Village, New Town, Tema Booster Station, Clementina, Ashaiman Circuit Courts, Lebanon Zone 5, and Jericho.

Households, shops, and businesses operating within these communities should expect no electricity supply for the three-hour window. ECG has urged residents and business owners in the affected communities to make necessary preparations ahead of the scheduled downtime. The announcement comes as a reminder of the 2012 to 2016 dumsor crisis, a prolonged period of severe load shedding that disrupted businesses and daily life across Ghana.

ECG has emphasized that Sunday's interruption is a targeted, time-bound maintenance exercise and is not connected to any wider systemic power shortage. The company is taking steps to ensure that the maintenance works will ultimately improve electricity service delivery in the affected areas. This move is part of ECG's efforts to prevent a recurrence of the widespread power outages experienced during the dumsor crisis.

In addition to the November 1 outage, ECG has also planned maintenance-related power cuts in communities across two regions on three days in November. Areas such as Kokrobite, Adeiso, and Ansapatu are among those expected to experience the interruptions. ECG is working to minimize the impact of these outages and ensure that customers are adequately informed.

The planned power outage on November 1 is part of ECG's efforts to maintain and upgrade its infrastructure. The company is committed to providing reliable electricity services to its customers and is taking proactive steps to prevent power outages. By carrying out regular maintenance works, ECG aims to improve the overall quality of electricity service delivery in Ghana.
