Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has set up the Labour Party 2027 Governorship Campaign Council, with a structure that covers the three senatorial zones and state constituencies. Agwu U. Agwu has been appointed Director-General of the council, with Dr Eric Egwuibe as Director of Finance. Other key appointments include Dr Chibuzor Obiesili as Director of Strategy and Planning, Kelechi Nwaiwu, SAN, as Director of Legal, and Onyebuchi Ememanka as Director of Publicity. Dr Christian Anokwuru will serve as Director of Special Duties. AIG Arungwa Nwazue (retd.) will head the Security Directorate.
The campaign structure also establishes three zonal coordination positions, covering Abia Central, Abia North, and Abia South. Professor Udochukwu Ogbonna will coordinate Abia Central, Chief Emeka Charles Kalu will coordinate Abia North, while Chimaobi Ebisike will coordinate Abia South. This zonal structure aims to link the state leadership with individual state constituencies for effective campaign coordination.
The council has also appointed coordinators for various state constituencies, creating a constituency-level framework for the party's 2027 campaign activities. Some of the appointments include Mr Innocent Eleogu for Ikwuano, Dr Obioma Orji for Isiala Ngwa North, and Hon. Dannie Ubani for Isiala Ngwa South. Other coordinators appointed include Mr Emmanuel Maduforo Ufomba, Mr Innocent Enyinnaya Anyanwu, Col. Emeka Chilaka (retd.), and Chief Okey Onyemuwa.
In addition to the above appointments, Mr Ikerionwu Okarimie will coordinate Bende South, while Mr Silas Eke takes charge of Bende North. Mr Emmanuel Okoronkwo is the coordinator for Isuikwuato, with Mandela Obasi and Mr Kalu Ukwu Uduma appointed for Ohafia North and Ohafia South respectively. The Aba axis will be coordinated by Chief Shaka Dimgba Obasi, Mr George Ezeikpe Okeiyi, and Mr Chidi Onyendi.
The inauguration of the council is set to hold on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 12 noon at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia. All members have been directed to be seated before the governor arrives for the inauguration. This move is seen as a step towards strengthening the party's campaign efforts ahead of the 2027 election.
