A 57-year-old man, Samuel Nsiah, has been arrested by the police in Ghana for engaging in shoplifting incidents in various areas in southern Ghana. The arrest was made at a hideout at Akrade, near Somanya in the Eastern Region, on Friday, November 5, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m. Nsiah was apprehended following intelligence gathered by the Somanya District Police Command in collaboration with the Borteyman Police in Accra.

The arrest came after several videos circulated on social media, particularly TikTok, showing Nsiah allegedly stealing from retail outlets. The videos went viral, attracting public attention and prompting the police to take action. According to the police, Nsiah has admitted to stealing consumable items, electronic gadgets, clothing, and other merchandise from shops in various parts of the country during interrogation.

The locations of the alleged thefts include Kyebi, Suhum, Ashaiman, Accra Central, Koforidua, Tema, Akosombo, and Adenta, among other towns in southern Ghana. Nsiah, who described himself as a chief and minister of the gospel, lived at Akrade in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region. The police are currently holding him in custody at Borteyman in Greater Accra as part of further investigations.

The police press statement, dated November 7, 2026, and issued by the Eastern Regional Police Command, provided details about Nsiah's arrest and the allegations against him. The statement confirmed that Nsiah was arrested after videos of him stealing from shops circulated widely on social media.

The police have not disclosed the total value of the stolen items or the number of shops affected by Nsiah's alleged shoplifting incidents. However, the arrest has raised concerns about the prevalence of shoplifting in southern Ghana and the ease with which perpetrators can evade detection.

Nsiah's case has sparked a wider conversation about the need for increased security measures in retail outlets and the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public to prevent and investigate crimes. The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activity and to provide information that could help in the prevention and detection of crimes.

The arrest of Samuel Nsiah serves as a reminder that law enforcement agencies in Ghana are actively working to combat crime and that perpetrators will be brought to justice. The police have assured the public that they will continue to work tirelessly to prevent and investigate crimes, and to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
