The Ghana Navy has added 346 new personnel to its ranks after completing 26 weeks of intensive military and naval training. The recruits, part of Basic Training Intake 85, graduated at a passing-out parade held on September 25 at the Naval Training Command in Nutekpor, Volta Region. Their training included classroom lessons, practical exercises, and military drills to equip them with the necessary skills and discipline.
Volta Regional Minister James Gunu addressed the recruits, congratulating them on completing the rigorous program that tested their physical abilities, academic knowledge, and character. He emphasized that joining the Ghana Armed Forces comes with greater responsibility and the trust of the Ghanaian people. Mr. Gunu urged the recruits to uphold integrity, professionalism, and patriotism in their duties.
Mr. Gunu also cautioned the new naval personnel against emerging security threats, including armed robbery, land-guard activities, and cybercrime. He charged them to remain alert and exercise firmness, fairness, and discipline while respecting human rights. The Regional Minister commended the Commanding Officer and instructors for their contribution to the training program.
Reviewing Officer Commodore Godson Kwabla Zowonoo urged the recruits to hold firmly to the values acquired during their training, including loyalty, courage, and integrity. He reminded them that the passing-out ceremony marked the beginning of their professional journey and encouraged them to pursue continuous learning and self-development.
Commodore Zowonoo also cautioned the recruits against corruption and abuse of authority, encouraging them to lead by example. He noted that the naval uniform carries responsibility, trust, and a commitment to national service, and warned them to conduct themselves in a manner that protects the reputation of the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Armed Forces.
Some recruits were recognized for exceptional performance during the training. Recruit Petty Officer Class 1 Asafo-Agyei Audrey Kantanka was adjudged the Overall Best Recruit, while Recruit Chief Petty Officer Class 1 Alimenu Hamza won the Best in Drill award. Ordinary Seaman Under Naval Training Amadi Blankson De-young Jnr was named Best in Academics.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, instructors, and relatives and friends of the recruits. The Ghana Navy's new personnel are expected to contribute to the country's security and uphold the values of the Ghana Armed Forces.
