The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 23rd National Sports Festival, tagged Enugu Coal City Games, has constituted various sub-committees to oversee the organization of the Games. The Chairman of the LOC, Hon. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, and the Secretary General, Olumide Bamiduro, announced the formation of the sub-committees, which they believe will bring about the best organization of the sports festival in its history. Members of the sub-committees were carefully selected based on their expertise and experience.
The LOC members include Hon. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu Jr as Chairman, Mary Onyali, Akuchukwu Aghazu, Victor Okorie, Blessing Chisalam Ekwe, Davidson Owumi, Tony Ugwu, Jonathan Nnaji, Boniface Onovo, Ephraim Ochonma, Obiora Obasi, Henry Chinedu Okorie, and Bamiduro Olumide as Secretary General. The sub-committees include Games Village Management, Accommodation, Catering, Media and Communication, Protocol, Ceremonial, and Security, among others. Each sub-committee has a chairman, deputy chairman, and members.
The Games Village Management Committee has Hon. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu as Chairman, Bamiduro Olumide as Secretary, and members including Davidson Owumi, Dr. Ademola Are, Onovo Boniface, Miriam Aniekwe, and Obiora Obasi. The Accommodation Sub-Committee has Henry Okorie as Deputy Chairman, Obiora Obasi as Chairman, and members such as Eugenia Udeh, Gbenga Omoyemi, and Obinna Chukwu. The Catering Sub-Committee has Hon. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu as Chairman and Bamiduro Olumide as Deputy Chairman.
The Media and Communication Sub-Committee is chaired by the Hon Commissioner of Information, with Gideon Iwueke as Deputy Chairman and Uche Anichukwu as Secretary. Members include Hon. Dan Nwomeh, Foster Ejikeme Chime, Dan Onwuegbuna, Frankie Omokhua, Osondu Ngwude, Nneka Anibueze, Ndubueze Chidoka, Felicia Nwokorie, Solomon Unya, and Brian Okechukwu. The Protocol Sub-Committee has the Chief of Protocol, Government House, as Chairman and Princess Ugwu Obiajulu as Deputy Chairman.
The Ceremonial Sub-Committee is chaired by Akuchukwu Aghazu, with Hon. Ricky Agu as Deputy Chairman and the Director of Organizing, Ministry of Youth and Sports, as Secretary. Members include Bamiduro Olumide, Edward Adebisi, Jane Owoh, and Robinson Okosun. The Security Sub-Committee has the Commissioner of Police as Chairman, Raymond Ugwu as Deputy Chairman, and Osondu Ifeanyi as Secretary. Members include Vincent Onyeabor, Chief Michael Chukwu, Hon. Chinedu Otaka, Almond Kubua, and representatives from the DSS, Civil Defense, and GOC 82 Division.
Other sub-committees set up by the LOC include Transport, Venue and Facilities, Finance, Marketing and Sponsorship, Volunteers, Mobilisation, Tourism and Festival Experience, Medical, Technical, Games Secretariat, and Secretariat Staff. The 23rd National Sports Festival will take place from November 27 to December 11, 2026, in Enugu.
The LOC believes that the constitution of these sub-committees is a step in the right direction and will ensure a successful and well-organized sports festival. The sub-committees are expected to work together to deliver a memorable experience for athletes, officials, and spectators.
