Delta State Commissioner for Works and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has stated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's administration will approach the 2027 general elections by highlighting its achievements rather than engaging in propaganda or political mudslinging. According to Aniagwu, the administration's accomplishments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, empowerment, and other sectors serve as its "report card" to the people.
Aniagwu emphasized that the administration's four-point M.O.R.E Agenda, which includes Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security, serves as the proper basis for assessing the Oborevwori administration. He noted that the administration has made significant interventions across the state, particularly in road infrastructure, with rural and riverine communities being connected through road and bridge projects.
The commissioner cited the administration's interventions in education, including the identification of schools requiring urgent attention to improve teaching and learning conditions. He stated that such projects would stimulate local economic activity, as contractors and service providers would inject resources into communities. Aniagwu also highlighted the administration's empowerment programs, including the engagement of local councilors in grassroots interventions designed to support residents across the state.
Aniagwu further emphasized the administration's focus on healthcare, noting that it is not only constructing or renovating hospital buildings but also investing in medical equipment and personnel to make the facilities functional. He also pointed to the state's higher education system, which includes four state-owned universities and other tertiary institutions that have continued to function despite national challenges.
On the 2027 elections, Aniagwu stated that the Governor's political objective is clear, with the administration supporting President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He distinguished the administration's political objectives from its broader responsibility of delivering development to Deltans, stressing that political competition must not threaten the peace required for development.
Aniagwu's comments come amid a reported clash between supporters of the APC and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. The state government has directed security agencies to investigate the incident and establish those responsible. Aniagwu emphasized that the government would not tolerate intimidation, violence, or any action capable of undermining the state's peace, regardless of the political party involved.
The commissioner reiterated that every political party and candidate should be allowed to campaign freely, provided such activities are conducted peacefully and within the law. He maintained that political differences should not destroy the peace and stability required for Delta State's continued development, adding that anyone whose actions threaten the state's peace will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
