Kano Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has charged operational commanders in the state to remain neutral, ensure human rights protection, and uphold professionalism before, during, and after the 2027 general elections. This was stated during a strategic lecture on Election Security Management for operational commanders of the command. The lecture, which took place at the Police Officers' Mess, Bompai, Kano, had in attendance Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and other key officers.

The Commissioner of Police appreciated the officers for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to crime prevention, management, and control, which has contributed to the relative peace and stability in the state. He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force has a constitutional responsibility to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and actors. This, he said, is crucial in ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Mr. Bakori charged the operational commanders to remain absolutely neutral, apolitical, and non-partisan in the discharge of their duties, particularly during the ongoing electioneering campaigns and in the build-up to the 2027 general elections. He warned that any officer found engaging in partisan politics or compromising the integrity of the electoral process will face strict disciplinary action.

The Kano police boss further charged the operational commanders to remain professional, respect human rights and the rule of law, operate with the fear of God, and work selflessly to earn public trust and confidence. He reminded the officers that public trust is the cornerstone of effective policing and urged them to strengthen community partnership and intelligence-led policing.

According to Mr. Bakori, the Command, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reiterates its resolve to provide adequate security before, during, and after the 2027 general elections. The Command also calls on residents, political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and abide by the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The Commissioner of Police emphasized that any act capable of breaching public peace will not be condoned. He urged the operational commanders to work towards ensuring a peaceful, credible, and hitch-free electoral process in the state. This, he said, is in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.

The strategic lecture was aimed at preparing the operational commanders for their roles in ensuring a secure and peaceful electoral process. The Commissioner of Police's charge is seen as a move to ensure that the police play a neutral and professional role in the upcoming elections.
