The National Chairman of the Action Alliance, Kenneth Udeze, has expressed concerns over the Independent National Electoral Commission's planned world press conference scheduled for Tuesday. Udeze described the event as a "dangerous threat" to the 2027 general elections and a "mockery of the rule of law" in Nigeria. He stated that the press conference is a selective jamboree and an exercise in futility if the authentic leadership of the AA is excluded.
The press conference, to be held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, aims to outline INEC's preparations for the 2027 General Elections. However, Udeze's statement, signed by him, argued that the event is biased and exclusionary. The AA's authentic National Leadership, led by Udeze, received the notice with shock and dismay. Udeze emphasized that the Court of Appeal has affirmed his leadership as the superior court of record.
Udeze questioned INEC's neutrality, transparency, and independence, given its open disobedience to and contempt for subsisting and binding judgments of the Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal had affirmed the Udeze-led National Executive as the authentic leadership of the Action Alliance. Udeze demanded that INEC immediately correct the anomaly and demonstrate respect for the Rule of Law.
As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Udeze noted that Prof. Joash Amupitan, INEC's Chairman, is aware that a Federal High Court cannot overrule the Court of Appeal. Udeze insisted that INEC must publicly explain why it chooses which court orders to obey. Furthermore, INEC must withdraw recognition from impostors and give full effect to the Court of Appeal judgments by recognizing and publishing the candidates duly nominated by the Udeze-led NEC.
The Action Alliance under Chief Udeze remains the authentic and lawful Action Alliance and will not be intimidated or excluded by any jamboree. Udeze warned that if INEC continues on this path of illegality and selective justice, the 2027 elections will be compromised from the source. A credible election cannot be built on a foundation of disobedience to the law.
Udeze's concerns reflect a broader issue of electoral credibility in Nigeria. The country's electoral process has faced criticism in the past, with allegations of bias and manipulation. The Action Alliance's situation has raised questions about INEC's ability to manage the electoral process fairly.
The controversy surrounding INEC's planned press conference has sparked concerns about the 2027 general elections. Key stakeholders, including the Action Alliance, must be involved in discussions about the electoral process to ensure its credibility. The international community and civil society organizations are watching closely to ensure that Nigeria's electoral process is transparent and fair.
