Dumo Lulu-Briggs, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election, has made a bold promise to reject his salaries and allowances if elected. Instead, he plans to use the funds to support widows across the state. This pledge was made during a press conference in Abonnema, where Lulu-Briggs outlined his vision for a transparent and accountable administration.

Lulu-Briggs drew inspiration from his principal, Peter Obi, who has been known for his sacrifices in public office. He emphasized that his financial independence would enable him to serve without relying on government remuneration. His businesses, he said, would continue to provide for him even after leaving office, eliminating the need for pension or other benefits.

The NDC candidate highlighted the trust deficit between Rivers people and those governing them, describing it as "frightening." He promised to rebuild this relationship if elected, through a comprehensive "reset" of Rivers State. This reset would cover the economy, politics, governance, and access to opportunities, ensuring that citizens no longer need political connections to access government opportunities.

Lulu-Briggs' administration would prioritize investment in young people, recognizing that the future of Rivers State depends on developing its human resources. He also pledged to reform the state civil service, which he believes has been weakened by the concentration of contracts and government activities at the Government House.

The candidate promised substantial investment in healthcare, particularly in the rehabilitation and activation of primary healthcare centers across the state. He plans to recruit more doctors and provide incentives, including accommodation and inconvenience allowances, to encourage medical professionals to serve in rural communities.

Lulu-Briggs emphasized that his ultimate objective is to use public office to restore trust, expand opportunities, and ensure that Rivers' natural wealth translates into improved living conditions for its people. He called on Rivers people to support him in navigating the challenges of state politics and resetting the state's trajectory.

The proposed reset of Rivers State would also focus on upgrading infrastructure, including ports in Rivers, Delta, and Calabar. Lulu-Briggs' vision for the state is one of transparency, accountability, and service, where public office is about serving the people rather than personal enrichment.
