The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has assured Nigerians that its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, will provide a physically present, accessible and responsive presidency if elected in the 2027 presidential election. This assurance was given by the Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC PCC, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja.
According to Ologbondiyan, Atiku has consistently demonstrated an understanding of Nigeria’s economic and social challenges and has proposed policy interventions aimed at addressing them. He cited Atiku’s position during the 2023 presidential campaign on fuel subsidy removal, advocating a phased approach to reduce pressure on Nigerians.
Ologbondiyan said developments in the country over the past three years have further demonstrated the need for a presidency that is accessible, responsive and capable of taking timely decisions on national issues. He emphasized that Nigeria cannot afford uncertainty over who is effectively directing the affairs of government at critical moments.
The country requires firm and focused leadership, according to Ologbondiyan, who stated that an Atiku presidency would focus on addressing economic difficulties, improving citizens’ welfare and restoring confidence in public institutions. He highlighted Atiku’s recent economic proposals aimed at reducing the burden of rising energy and living costs.
Ologbondiyan mentioned that Atiku has proposed a production-based intervention for petroleum products refined in Nigeria, with a fixed spending limit, National Assembly approval and independent auditing mechanisms. This comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and groups mobilizing supporters and communicating policy positions.
The leader of the Atiku Unity Movement (AUM), Hon. Francis Eburuwe, expressed commitment to Atiku’s presidential campaign and the need for a change in the country’s political direction. Eburuwe said the movement would mobilize Nigerians and take the message of Atiku’s candidacy across the country, expressing confidence in an Atiku-led administration to address challenges and improve welfare.
The ADC PCC said its campaign would focus on issues affecting Nigerians, particularly the economy, cost of living, energy costs, employment, security and governance effectiveness. The central objective is to present Atiku as a candidate who would remain accessible to Nigerians and directly engaged in government affairs if elected.
