The Allied Peoples Movement in Oyo State has denied allegations by the All Progressives Congress that its members are plotting to vandalise campaign billboards and posters of its governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli. The Alli Campaign Organisation had alleged that some APM members, working with elements of the Park Management System, were planning to destroy its candidate's billboards and campaign materials in parts of Ibadan. The alleged plan was said to have been hatched at a meeting held in the Gbagi area, targeting Egbeda, Ibadan North-East, Lagelu and Akinyele Local Government Areas.
The APM Presidential/Governorship Apex Campaign Council, in a statement by its Media and Publicity Committee, rejected the allegation, describing it as a deliberate falsehood. The party stressed that its campaign is anchored on peaceful mobilisation and strict adherence to democratic principles, noting that it neither encourages nor sponsors violence.
The APM Council made reference to the history of the APC in Oyo politics, stating that the people of the state are aware of the APC's reputation regarding political violence, intimidation, and disruptive tactics during election seasons. The party urged the Alli Campaign Organisation to desist from making inflammatory statements capable of heightening political tension in the state.
