Dr. Kadri Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Lagos in 2027, has stated that he is the best person to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. He made this statement at the 70th Harvest Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service of Cherubim and Seraphim Society, Olorunsogo Parish, Ese-Ofin, Lagos. Hamzat, who is also the current Deputy Governor of Lagos, emphasized that his understanding of the state's history and politics makes him the ideal candidate for the position.
Hamzat warned Lagos residents to be cautious of politicians who make attractive promises during election campaigns. He stated that such politicians often lack a deep understanding of the state's challenges and may not be able to deliver on their promises. According to him, Lagos is a critical state that contributes significantly to Nigeria's GDP, and its governance should not be taken lightly.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos highlighted his experience in government, which he believes has prepared him to lead the state. He recounted his journey, starting from working in New York in 2005, when he was invited by then-Governor Bola Tinubu to join his government. Since then, he has held various positions, including Commissioner for Science and Technology, Commissioner for Works, and currently, Deputy Governor of the state.
Hamzat's assertion that he understands the history and politics of Lagos is based on his long-standing involvement in the state's governance. He claimed that this understanding would enable him to effectively address the state's challenges, particularly with regards to land issues. According to him, his knowledge of the state's politics and history would help him navigate complex situations and make informed decisions.
The event, which was attended by traditional rulers, APC chieftains, Lagos State commissioners, local government chairmen, and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, also featured other notable speakers. Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of the Lagos State Governor, expressed her delight in celebrating the 70th Harvest Anniversary with church members. She appreciated the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, for his contributions to the community.
Rev. Esther Ajayi, Founder of Love of Christ Generation Church, urged Nigerians to continue praying for their leaders. She prayed for God's mercy, emphasizing that it is through His mercy that people can excel in life. The anniversary celebration included a medical outreach program, which was organized to give back to the community.
The Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, explained that the anniversary celebration was divided into three parts, including a Night of Praise, a medical outreach program, and the grand finale. He urged Nigerians to draw closer to God and have faith in Him, emphasizing the importance of imbibing Christian values in their activities.
