The Ecole normale de formation des professeurs d’écoles (ENFPE) in Notsè, Togo, has commenced its new academic year with a ceremony for its 5th promotion. On November 5, 195 students, including 96 women, gathered for the event, which was attended by Haho Prefect, Colonel Gnakou Alowégnim. The ceremony included the national and school anthems, a presentation of training plans, and an inaugural conference on "Professionalism, Excellence, and Citizenship Values as the Foundation of a School Teacher's Competence."
The ENFPE's Director, Adanglo Kouami, stated that the 195 students were selected after a rigorous preselection process. The two-year training program will combine theoretical and practical aspects, covering various disciplines such as languages and communication, science and technology, arts, history, geography, and social sciences. Kouami encouraged the new students to familiarize themselves with the institution's governing texts to ensure a successful academic journey.
Colonel Gnakou Alowégnim, the Haho Prefect, urged the students to strive for excellence and discipline, serving as role models for future promotions. He emphasized that the ENFPE's activities for the 2026-2028 academic year align with the government's efforts to modernize the education system. The Prefect highlighted that teacher training is a strategic axis for improving teaching quality and raising students' academic levels.
As of November 4, 2022, the Ecoles normales d’instituteurs (ENI) were renamed Ecoles normales de formation de professeurs d’écoles (ENFPE). These institutions now offer an initial two-year training program, culminating in the Diplômé de professeur d’école primaire (DPE) certificate, replacing the Certificat de formation d’étude normale d’instituteur (CFENI). This change aims to enhance the quality of teacher education in Togo.
The ENFPE's training program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective teachers. The institution's focus on professionalism, excellence, and citizenship values reflects the government's commitment to improving the education sector. By emphasizing these core values, the ENFPE aims to produce high-quality teachers who can positively impact students' academic performance.
The academic year 2026-2028 marks a significant milestone for the ENFPE, as it continues to play a vital role in shaping Togo's education landscape. With its renewed focus on teacher training, the institution is poised to make a positive impact on the country's education sector. The ENFPE's efforts to modernize teacher education align with the government's broader goals for education reform.
As the new students embark on their academic journey, they will be expected to uphold the values of professionalism, excellence, and citizenship. The ENFPE's training program will challenge them to develop their skills and knowledge, ultimately contributing to the improvement of education in Togo. With a strong foundation in place, the institution is confident that its graduates will make a meaningful difference in the lives of their students.
