The 18th edition of the Salon international de l’artisanat de Ouagadougou (SIAO) is scheduled to take place from October 30 to November 8, 2026. Aguima Abdoulaziz Yonli, president of the security commission and director of the Kadiogo National Police, has assured that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure a secure event. The security commission comprises various defense and security forces, including the National Police, Municipal Police, National Gendarmerie, Army, and National Brigade of Firefighters.

According to Yonli, the security plan, dubbed "order of operation," has been developed after several meetings and on-site evaluations to identify potential threats and propose adapted solutions. The plan combines human, material, and logistical resources, including surveillance by agents in uniform and plainclothes, as well as technological means such as video surveillance and drones. These measures aim to protect visitors, artisans, their works, and exhibited goods.

This edition's security innovations have led to an increase in the number of agents deployed on the ground, exceeding the 2024 edition's numbers. The introduction of an electronic ticket system (e-ticket) is expected to reduce wait times at ticket counters and facilitate a smoother entry process. Additionally, a pedestrian zone has been created around the SIAO to limit vehicle access, and two access circuits have been designated for visitors.

To manage parking, a main parking lot has been designated for visitors near the Kadiogo tax center, with other approved parking lots identified in collaboration with the 5th and 11th arrondissement mayors. Police officers will be stationed at these approved parking lots to ensure control. Visitors are encouraged to avoid unauthorized parking areas and use recognized spaces.

Fire prevention measures have been put in place, including an evaluation of electrical installations and the presence of firefighting equipment. The National Brigade of Firefighters will be present on-site, with teams ready to intervene in case of an emergency. Medical emergency services will also be available, in coordination with the health commission.

To ensure the security of artisanal works, exhibited goods, and commercial transactions, a physical surveillance system has been implemented, complemented by technological means and controlled access hours. Exposants will access the site according to set schedules, and their goods will be monitored by agents in uniform and plainclothes.

The SIAO's security commission has also established a sub-commission comprising judicial police officers to investigate infractions, establish necessary procedures, and forward them to competent authorities. With these measures in place, the event's organizers aim to provide a secure and incident-free experience for all attendees.
