CCM North Unguja Regional Guardian and Speaker of the National Assembly, Mussa Azzan Zungu, has clarified that investment in Tanzania is not equivalent to selling the country. Instead, it involves strategic partnerships that generate employment opportunities for citizens and increase domestic revenue. Zungu made these remarks during a visit to the Unguja region, where he provided guidance on investment opportunities and implementation of the election manifesto.
Zungu highlighted the benefits of investments in various sectors, including ports, agriculture, airports, tourism, and hotels. These investments, he said, create job opportunities for young people and enable the government to boost domestic revenue. This revenue is then used to fund essential social services such as clean water projects, quality education, and decent housing. The government also uses domestic revenue to provide good salaries and care for the elderly.
During his visit, Zungu presented directives from the CCM Central Committee, calling for a thorough assessment of the party's vitality and public support. He emphasized that this exercise must be carried out in conjunction with ensuring citizens have access to essential services, including water and roads constructed under the leadership of President Hussein Ali Mwinyi. Zungu also urged members to prioritize paying their party subscriptions, which stand at Sh100 per month.
Zungu expressed concern that only 6,000 out of 106,169 CCM members in the North Unguja Region had paid their dues between January and September. He encouraged members to pay their subscriptions regularly, rather than rushing to clear arrears only during election periods. Zungu stressed that members' fees are the foundation of the party and that laxity in this area needs to be addressed.
The CCM North Unguja Regional Guardian also emphasized the importance of party discipline and unity. He warned against premature campaigns and factionalism over the 2030 presidential race, stating that the Central Committee and God's will would determine the party's leadership. Zungu urged members and leaders not to turn against the party when they miss out on or are removed from leadership positions.
Zungu instructed MPs and members of the House of Representatives to engage with citizens in local councils, inspect project implementation, and document achievements in major projects. He urged them to publicize these achievements, including flyovers, roads, maternal and child health services, water and electricity supply, to help citizens appreciate the government's work.
CCM North Unguja Regional Chairman Iddi Ali Ame confirmed strong cooperation between the party and the government, noting that CCM had won all ward and shehia positions in the region. The region's position on opposition parties' requests for appointments to local administrative positions remains that election winners should hold office pending guidance from the Central Committee.
