Zimdancehall musician Killer T, born Kelvin Kusikwenyu, has reportedly been arrested following allegations that he threatened and insulted the family of a man who was mauled to death by four security dogs in Southerton, Harare. Police sources said the musician was being held at Marlborough Police Station on Sunday. The Zimbabwe Republic Police had not officially confirmed Killer T’s arrest or disclosed the charges he could face at the time of publication.

The reported detention follows the circulation of audio recordings in which a voice alleged to be that of the musician directs insults, vulgar language and threats at members of the Muzavazi family. The recordings circulated on social media after members of Malcom Takudzwa Muzavazi’s family publicly discussed the circumstances surrounding his death. Muzavazi, 39, died after he was attacked by four dogs while walking along a footpath near Scorpion Empire Car Sale in Southerton on September 24.

Killer T was drawn into the controversy because of his reported friendship with Gilbert Rumbwere, one of the owners of Scorpion Empire Car Sale, where the dogs involved in the fatal attack were kept. Rumbwere, 44, was subsequently arrested after police said he had been on the run following the attack. He appeared before Mbare regional magistrate Noel Mupeiwa facing a culpable homicide charge.

Prosecutors allege that Rumbwere failed to secure the premises and properly restrain the dogs, resulting in their escape and Muzavazi’s death. Rumbwere was remanded in custody pending his bail determination. The car sale’s other co-owner, Itai Tamirepi, 43, and security guard Mannex Svova, 21, were also arrested in connection with the incident.

The exact words forming the basis of the reported police investigation have not been officially disclosed, and authorities have not confirmed whether the circulating recordings have been authenticated. Police have urged dog owners to ensure their animals remain properly secured and controlled, warning that owners can be held accountable when their negligence results in injury or death.

Members of the public were also encouraged to report stray, aggressive or uncontrolled dogs to the authorities, local councils or the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The incident has raised concerns about public safety and the responsibilities of dog owners.

Killer T’s reported arrest is separate from the culpable homicide proceedings arising directly from the fatal dog attack. Nehanda Radio has approached police for official confirmation of his detention and details of any allegations or charges being considered.
