The Champion Rise Swimming Development Gala, now in its 2026 edition, is scheduled to take place on October 10 and 11 at the Shaaban Robert Swimming Pool in Upanga, Dar es Salaam. This annual event, organised by the Champion Rise Swim Club, aims to provide young swimmers with a competitive platform to gain experience and help clubs and schools identify emerging talent.
According to Amina Mfaume, Chief Executive Officer of Champions Rise Limited, the gala is designed to create a supportive environment for young swimmers to test their abilities and gain valuable experience. The event's main goal is to give young swimmers an opportunity to compete, learn, and build confidence while enjoying the sport and developing the skills needed to progress to higher levels.
The competition will feature various swimming disciplines, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley (IM), with races organised according to age and ability. This will enable coaches and technical officials to assess young swimmers, while schools and clubs can monitor their progress and identify those with potential for higher-level competition.
The gala has attracted swimmers from Dar es Salaam and beyond, with registration open until October 5. Previous editions have brought together swimmers with different levels of experience, from beginners competing for the first time to more experienced young athletes seeking to improve their performance.
The organisers emphasise that the event goes beyond medals and results, with a broader objective of promoting discipline, fitness, teamwork, and confidence among young swimmers. The gala is supported by several sponsors, including Hanspaul Group of Arusha, Genesis Sports of Nairobi, FINIS Inc, and Pepsi.
Mfaume highlighted the growing participation in the gala, demonstrating increasing interest in swimming among children, parents, schools, and clubs. She stressed the importance of continued support from sponsors, parents, schools, clubs, and coaches in creating more opportunities for young swimmers and strengthening the sport at grassroots level.
The two-day gala is expected to provide a valuable experience for the 180 participants, enabling them to compete across different disciplines, interact with fellow swimmers, and gain experience in a structured competitive environment. The organisers hope the event will continue to grow and contribute to the development of swimmers capable of representing Tanzania in national and international competitions.
