The Yobe state chapter of the African Democratic Congress has refunded N1 million allegedly paid to one of its members following a meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Council on the recently concluded local government elections in the state. According to the party, the money was deposited into the account of an individual who attended a meeting on September 22, 2026, at the office of the special adviser to the Yobe state government on inter-party affairs, Hon. Abdu Mamman Zoto.
The individual attended the meeting without authorisation from the party leadership, prompting the ADC to take disciplinary measures. The party's disciplinary committee investigated the matter and confirmed that N1 million had been deposited into the individual’s account. The party subsequently compelled the individual to return the money and directed that the full amount be refunded to the Yobe state government.
The refund was supported by State Government Treasury Receipt No. 183689 and Access Bank Teller Reference No. 165262755310490, both dated October 2, 2026. The ADC condemned what it described as acts of “inducement, bribery or corruption,” stressing that it remained committed to integrity and the protection of the public interest.
The party also took disciplinary measures against those involved in the unauthorised meeting. However, the party criticised the conduct of the recently concluded local government elections in Yobe, alleging that the process did not meet what it described as the basic requirements of democracy and due process.
The ADC dissociated itself from the IPAC meeting and any similar meetings, directing that future correspondence with the ADC should be channelled through its state secretariat and addressed to the state chairman, Hon. Umar Alhaji Kalli. The party's state secretary, Mamu Alhaji Muhammad, signed the statement issued on Monday.
The Yobe state chapter of the ADC expressed its commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring that its members conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the party's values. The party's decision to refund the N1 million and take disciplinary measures against those involved demonstrates its commitment to transparency and accountability.
