The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has called on heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to take ownership of President Bola Tinubu's vision of building a $1 trillion Nigerian economy. Yilwatda made the call in Abuja while receiving a forum of Chief Executive Officers of MDAs at the APC National Secretariat. He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between government institutions and the ruling party in communicating the achievements and policies of the administration.
Yilwatda said the appointments of the agency heads were not merely professional engagements, but both political and administrative responsibilities entrusted to them by the President. He urged the appointees to see themselves as contributors to the success and continuity of the government's programmes and policies. According to him, those appointed to public offices must justify the confidence reposed in them through effective service, performance and commitment to the objectives of the administration.
The APC chairman charged the agency heads to ensure that their respective institutions contribute meaningfully to the implementation of the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda. He particularly urged each agency to examine its mandate, programmes and budget and determine how they could contribute to economic growth, productivity, job creation, investment attraction and the realisation of the $1 trillion economic target. Yilwatda said the vision of a one-trillion-dollar economy should not be seen as the responsibility of a single ministry, agency or sector.
Yilwatda identified effective communication as a major responsibility of government institutions, saying several interventions and projects being undertaken by the administration were not adequately understood by Nigerians. He noted that although significant work was being carried out across different sectors, citizens would not necessarily know about such interventions unless the information was deliberately and consistently communicated. The APC chairman urged the MDAs to use their institutional platforms and grassroots connections to bridge the information gap between government and citizens.
Yilwatda highlighted infrastructure investments under the Tinubu administration, including deep seaports, transportation networks, energy infrastructure, rail expansion, logistics corridors and the coastal highway project. According to him, the projects are designed to improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of goods and services, reduce costs, attract investment and strengthen Nigeria's competitiveness as an economic hub in West and Central Africa. He added that reforms in the energy sector were similarly intended to improve power generation and access while creating opportunities for industrial expansion and private-sector investment.
The APC chairman urged the agency heads to work closely with the party in communicating the administration's policies and achievements, while also ensuring that citizens understand both the challenges and opportunities associated with the ongoing reforms. Yilwatda welcomed the forum's willingness to partner with the APC, saying the party expected stronger collaboration with government institutions in advancing the administration's economic objectives. He said every public institution should regard itself as an active participant in the journey towards the $1 trillion economy.
Yilwatda thanked the agency heads for their visit and commitment to national development, urging them to sustain their support for the administration and contribute their expertise and networks towards building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria. The APC chairman's call is part of efforts to ensure that government institutions and the ruling party work together to drive the administration's economic vision and agenda.
