Ali Hamid, the media director of Yemen's Hudaydah province, has stated that the general mobilization call by President Rashad Al-Alimi is not limited to the military aspect. Instead, it represents a comprehensive mobilization of the state, including all its institutions and pillars, primarily the Ministry of Defense. Hamid highlighted a meeting between the defense minister and the chief of the general staff to discuss activating the general mobilization within military institutions and across various fronts.
According to Hamid, the general mobilization does not signify the start of a limited military operation but a comprehensive process aimed at restoring the capital, Sana'a, and stabilizing the state's foundations on military, security, service, and other levels. He emphasized the necessity of mobilization participation in local authorities across various governorates. This approach seeks to engage all components of the state and society in confronting the Houthis.
The media director of Hudaydah stressed that mobilization must include civilians and citizens in areas still under Houthi control, supported by Iran. He called for the involvement of local, governmental, military, and security authorities. Hamid views this as a necessity for a "general call to arms" with the participation of different state and societal components to counter the Houthis, who have been accused of committing violations against Yemenis since late 2014.
Hamid argued that the call for general mobilization comes at an appropriate time, emphasizing that the moment has come to end Houthi control and restore state institutions. This would be achieved through a comprehensive movement involving various state institutions, local authorities, and citizens. The goal is to address the Houthi presence that has been a significant challenge since their takeover of Sana'a.
The Houthi group's control over Sana'a and other parts of Yemen has led to a complex conflict involving various Yemeni factions and international actors. Hamid's statements reflect a broader strategy to engage multiple sectors of Yemeni society in efforts to stabilize the country. The involvement of local authorities and citizens is seen as crucial in sustaining a national effort to address Houthi influence.
Efforts to restore Sana'a and end Houthi dominance have been ongoing, with varying degrees of success. The strategy outlined by Hamid suggests a multi-faceted approach that goes beyond military engagement. It aims to create a broad base of support for the government's efforts to re-establish control and provide stability.
The situation in Yemen remains complex, with ongoing challenges related to conflict, governance, and humanitarian needs. The call for comprehensive mobilization by the Yemeni government and the engagement of various sectors of society are seen as critical steps towards achieving stability and addressing the country's multifaceted crisis.
