Yei Regional Hospital in Central Equatoria State has received a significant donation aimed at improving diagnostic and healthcare services. The Be the Change Nzuri DAIMA Foundation provided a digital X-ray machine, seven wheelchairs, and protective clothing for medical staff. The equipment was officially handed over to the hospital on Tuesday in Yei. The handover ceremony was attended by local officials, health experts, and representatives of the foundation. This donation is expected to enhance the hospital's capacity to provide quality healthcare to the local community.
The digital X-ray machine, transported from Kampala in Uganda through Koboko, will significantly improve access to diagnostic services for patients in the Greater Yei area. According to Yei River County Health Director Simon Sebit, the machine will reduce the need for patients to travel elsewhere for X-ray services. Sebit expressed gratitude to the foundation for its support to the health sector in Yei River County. He emphasized that the community will no longer suffer due to the lack of an X-ray machine.
The new digital X-ray machine is expected to produce clearer images than the hospital's previous manual X-ray equipment. Acting Medical Director of Yei Regional Hospital, Dr Emmanuel Laku, stated that the machine is in good condition and will help health workers diagnose fractures and other medical conditions more accurately. He highlighted the significance of the digital X-ray machine, noting that it will provide better quality images compared to the previous manual machine.
Dr Laku also emphasized the need for training on how to operate and maintain the new equipment. He called on health partners to support training for hospital staff to ensure the equipment remains functional and available to patients. This will enable the hospital to maximize the benefits of the digital X-ray machine and provide quality healthcare services.
The Be the Change Nzuri DAIMA Foundation also provided seven wheelchairs and protective clothing for medical personnel. Executive Director of the foundation, Joseph Yengatu, stated that the organization recognized the challenges faced by the community of Yei in terms of healthcare. He explained that the foundation's goal is to address these challenges and provide necessary support to the health sector.
According to Yengatu, the X-ray machine was secured through the foundation's partner organization, Zuridaima, based in Spain. The foundation's efforts aim to improve healthcare services in Yei and surrounding areas. The donation is a significant step towards enhancing the hospital's capacity to provide quality healthcare.
