Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has announced plans to spend two weeks in Kano State to mobilize support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. This was disclosed at a gathering organized by the Leke Abejide Foundation in Kano. Bello emphasized his readiness to actively engage in the campaign rather than just making verbal commitments. He called on the people to demonstrate their political strength.
During the event, Bello challenged the political stakeholders to work towards securing more votes, noting that the nearly 500,000 votes obtained in 2023 were insufficient. He expressed confidence that with the strategies of Leke Abejide, they could garner at least two million votes for Tinubu. Bello urged support for all APC candidates and called on northerners to back Tinubu's re-election, citing the need for the President to complete his constitutional term.
Bello highlighted the achievements of the Tinubu administration, particularly the progress made on the Kano-Abuja highway. He noted that after eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari, who hails from the north, Tinubu has not even completed his first term. Bello's comments underscored the importance of continuity and the development projects initiated by the current administration.
Leke Abejide, in his remarks, described Kano as his home, where he has lived and built his business for nearly 34 years. He stated that his initiative is a way of giving back to the people who have been his community before he ventured into politics. Abejide's foundation has provided 500 million naira in interest-free loans to women in cooperative groups.
The initiative includes women from eight states, including Yarabawa, Igala, and Ebira communities residing in Kano. This move aims to empower women economically and foster community development. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reiterated his administration's commitment to protecting the rights of non-indigenous residents and ensuring their inclusion in governance.
Yusuf disclosed that special advisers have been appointed to represent the interests of Yarabawa, Igbo, and minority northern groups, with considerations for similar representation for Igala. He urged these groups to support Tinubu and APC candidates, praising Abejide for expanding his philanthropic efforts.
The collaboration between Bello, Abejide, and the Kano State government reflects a broader strategy to strengthen political alliances and ensure a robust support base for future elections. The engagements are expected to enhance the participation of various communities in the political process and promote unity within the state.
