This event was organised to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of teachers to nation-building.

The NUT Delta State Chairman, Comrade Dickson Poubeni, expressed appreciation to the Delta State Government for creating an enabling environment for teachers to participate in the global celebration. He commended the Oborevwori administration for approving Salary Grade Level 17 progression for university graduate primary school teachers, describing the decision as a significant intervention that brought an end to the prolonged stagnation of affected teachers at SGL 14.

According to Poubeni, the development had brought renewed joy and encouragement to teachers in the primary school system. The World Teachers’ Day celebration, recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, was an opportunity to acknowledge the critical role of teachers in shaping the future of society. The event brought together government officials, education stakeholders, teachers, and other dignitaries.

Governor Oborevwori and six other eminent Deltans were nominated for awards in recognition of their contributions to education and their roles in achieving the SGL 17 career progression for university graduate primary school teachers in the state. Among the award recipients listed were Commissioner for Primary Education, Chief (Mrs.) Rose Ezewu, and Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Nze Ashibogwu.

Poubeni described the Governor’s intervention on the salary-grade progression as a landmark achievement for teachers, noting that it had addressed an issue that had persisted under successive administrations. He urged continued collaboration among government, teachers, and other stakeholders to further improve the standard of education and enhance the welfare of teachers across Delta State.
