The Working People United (WoPU), a coalition of workers, professionals, and artisans, has reaffirmed its endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the most viable candidate for Nigerians in the 2027 general elections. This was announced by WoPU's Coordinator-General, Comrade (Prince) Williams Eniredonana Akporeha, during an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service marking Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary. The event was held at Living Faith Church in Asaba, Delta State.
The Thanksgiving Service coincided with the 72nd birthday celebration of Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith World Outreach (Winners Chapel). The service was attended by dignitaries, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Akporeha commended President Tinubu's leadership over the past three and a half years, describing it as exemplary and remarkable. He noted that Tinubu's administration has shown boldness and courage in confronting challenges that previous governments had avoided.
According to Akporeha, President Tinubu inherited a collapsed country but has demonstrated resilience and vision to revive it. WoPU highlighted several landmark policies of the administration, including the removal of fuel subsidy, which has freed up funds for grassroots development. The establishment of Nigeria's first private refinery has ensured a steady petroleum supply nationwide despite global hostilities.
WoPU also mentioned the administration's advocacy for state police and resource control, which they believe will strengthen security, reduce corruption, and promote equitable development. The floating of the naira has boosted export competitiveness, attracted foreign investment, and reduced reliance on volatile oil revenues. These credentials, WoPU argues, distinguish Tinubu from his opponents.
Akporeha, the immediate past President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), emphasized that Tinubu is not driven by personal ambition for wealth or power but by a commitment to national progress. He noted that Tinubu understands the dynamics of power and applies it for the collective good, with zero tolerance for religious bigotry and insecurity.
As part of its strategy, WoPU announced plans to embark on mass sensitization campaigns targeting workers and young Nigerians to mobilize support for President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. Akporeha concluded that steering Nigeria through its current challenges requires resilience and tenacity, qualities he believes Tinubu embodies, with a proven track record in both private enterprise and public service.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, WoPU's endorsement of President Tinubu is seen as a significant boost to his re-election bid.
